As a Mushroom Picker, you will play a crucial role in the cultivation and harvesting of mushrooms in our farms located across Canada. Key Responsibilities:
- Harvest mushrooms: Carefully pick and harvest mushrooms according to the specific requirements of each variety, ensuring that only high-quality mushrooms are selected.
- Inspect quality: Examine mushrooms for any signs of damage, disease, or contamination, and promptly remove any affected ones to maintain the overall quality of the harvest.
- Follow safety protocols: Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations to ensure a safe working environment, including proper handling of tools, equipment, and chemicals.
- Maintain cleanliness: Keep the picking area clean and organized, disposing of waste materials appropriately and ensuring the overall hygiene of the work environment.
- Work efficiently: Achieve daily picking targets while maintaining attention to detail and quality standards set by the farm management.
- Record keeping: Maintain accurate records of the quantity and quality of mushrooms harvested, ensuring that all data is properly documented and reported.
- Farm maintenance: Assist in general farm maintenance tasks, such as watering, weeding, and cleaning, as assigned by the supervisor.
- Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with other team members and supervisors, communicating any issues or concerns promptly.
Qualifications:
- Physical fitness: Ability to work for extended periods in a physically demanding environment, including bending, lifting, and standing for long hours.
- Attention to detail: Excellent observational skills to identify ripe and healthy mushrooms and distinguish them from damaged or unhealthy ones.
- Adaptability: Willingness to work in varying weather conditions, as mushroom cultivation is an outdoor activity that can be affected by seasonal changes.
- Team player: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team, supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive work environment.
- Punctuality: Reliable and punctual attendance to ensure smooth farm operations and efficient picking schedules.
- Prior experience: While prior experience in mushroom picking is an asset, it is not a requirement, as training will be provided to suitable candidates.
