Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Building Caretaker to join our team and ensure the proper maintenance and upkeep of our residential or commercial building. As a Building Caretaker, you will be responsible for creating a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our residents or tenants.

Responsibilities:

  • Building Maintenance: Perform routine inspections of the building to identify any maintenance or repair needs. Take necessary actions to address issues promptly, such as repairing plumbing or electrical systems, fixing broken appliances, or replacing faulty equipment. Coordinate with external contractors for major repairs or renovations.
  • Cleaning and Sanitation: Maintain cleanliness and tidiness throughout the building, including common areas, hallways, elevators, and restrooms. Regularly clean floors, windows, and other surfaces. Dispose of trash and ensure proper recycling practices are followed. Monitor and replenish supplies, such as cleaning products and toiletries.
  • Safety and Security: Ensure the building is secure at all times. Conduct regular inspections of safety equipment, such as fire alarms, extinguishers, and emergency exits, and promptly report any issues. Monitor access control systems and surveillance cameras. Respond to emergency situations, such as fire alarms or medical incidents, following established protocols.
  • Landscaping and Groundskeeping: Maintain the exterior appearance of the building by mowing lawns, trimming hedges, watering plants, and removing snow or ice from pathways. Ensure proper disposal of leaves, branches, and other debris. Coordinate with external contractors for larger landscaping projects.
  • Tenant Relations: Build positive relationships with residents or tenants by addressing their concerns or inquiries promptly and professionally. Assist with move-ins and move-outs, including coordinating inspections and handling key transfers. Enforce building rules and regulations, and respond to noise complaints or other violations.
  • Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs. Keep track of building-related expenses and submit reports to the appropriate authorities. Coordinate with property management for lease renewals, rent collection, or other administrative tasks as required.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience in building maintenance, janitorial services, or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic repair and maintenance tasks, such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify maintenance needs.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • physical endurance and capability to engage in manual labor, encompassing the lifting of substantial weights.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required for certain properties.
  • Proficient in both autonomous work and collaborative teamwork, demonstrating adaptability in various work settings.
