Responsibilities:
- Assist in the daily care and feeding of beef cattle, ensuring they receive proper nutrition and are maintained in a healthy condition.
- Monitor and observe the herd for signs of illness, injury, or distress, and report any concerns to the farm supervisor.
- Assist in the handling and moving of cattle, using safe and humane techniques to minimize stress.
- Participate in the maintenance of cattle facilities, including cleaning, repairing fences, and ensuring a clean and safe working environment.
- Assist with the calving process, providing necessary support to cows and newborn calves as required.
- Administer vaccinations, medications, and treatments to cattle as directed by the farm supervisor or veterinarian.
- Operate and maintain farm equipment and machinery, such as tractors, loaders, and feeding systems, ensuring they are in good working condition.
- Assist with pasture management, including rotational grazing and weed control.
- Perform general farm duties as assigned, such as cleaning barns, maintaining water troughs, and assisting with farm maintenance tasks.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working on a beef cattle farm is preferred, but not mandatory. Training will be provided to the right candidate.
- Good understanding of animal welfare practices and a genuine interest in working with cattle.
- Physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks that require moderate to heavy lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with farm supervisors and other team members.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate farm equipment is an asset.
Working Conditions:
- This is a full-time position that may require working on weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime hours, especially during critical periods such as calving season.
- The work environment involves exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, mud, and dust.
- Strict adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory to ensure a safe working environment.
